Description

Students are invited to participate in the 8th Annual Virginia Tech Undergraduate Research and Prospective Graduate Student Conference on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Inn at VT and Skelton Conference Center.

Sponsored by the Center for Academic Enrichment and Excellence, the Virginia Tech Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, the Virginia Tech Division of Research, and the Graduate School, the conference offers a professional forum for undergraduates from Virginia Tech and other schools to showcase their involvement in research and creative scholarship and gain essential information relevant to their pursuit of graduate study.

The 2009 conference will consist of oral and poster presentations given by undergraduates from Virginia Tech and other institutions, and information sessions on topics related to graduate education and preparation. There is no registration fee for the conference; however, space is limited so students are encouraged to register early.

This professional development opportunity is intended to enrich the undergraduate educational experience, enable students to enhance their oral communication skills through a scholarly exchange of information and ideas, and assist undergraduates in exploring graduate education as a post baccalaureate option. Specifically, the Virginia Tech Undergraduate Research and Prospective Graduate Student Conference will:

    • Offer a means for students to share research and creative scholarship in a professional setting;
    • Encourage awareness of undergraduate scholarship and celebrate students’ involvement;
    • Assist students in developing effective presentation skills;
    • Strengthen public speaking, presentation, and other skills necessary for success in graduate school;
    • Facilitate interactions and networking opportunities between faculty, administrators and undergraduate students; and
    • Provide an opportunity for students to learn more about preparing and securing funding for graduate school.
