Seminar Series on Academic Success

  • Description

The Center for Academic Enrichment and Excellence (CAEE) offers a series of weekly, one hour seminars on a variety of topics related to academic success. The program is designed to provide students with a low pain, big gain opportunity to learn strategies to develop the academic skills and personal attributes needed to be successful at the college level. In addition to providing information on a select topic, the seminar atmosphere offers students the opportunity to interact and ask questions related to their individual concerns about the subject. Most seminar topics are offered two times a week for a two week period, allowing students different times to attend.

All seminars are free!. No pre-registration is necessary, however space is limited so students should plan to arrive early.

NOTE-If you are a Virginia Tech Student Organization, Resident Advisor, or Department and would like to schedule a Seminar on Academic Success for a time other than those listed below, you will need to submit an on-line Request Form at least 2 weeks prior to the proposed seminar date.

Time Management
Time management is an ongoing challenge for many students. If you feel like time is controlling you, attend this seminar to learn how to use your time more effectively. Bring your daily planner (or buy one from CAEE) and your syllabi and let us help you get organized. You'll learn how to manage your time wisely, leaving time for both school and fun! Students attending this seminar will be entered into a drawing for a free CAEE Daily Planner for Spring, 2007!

Cracking the Code: How to Study for Math, Science and Engineering Courses
If you are currently enrolled in any math, science, or engineering course, this seminar is for you. Learn how to read a technical textbook and how to study for these courses, as well as specific test-taking strategies for the math and applied sciences. You will also learn more about the resources on campus that are in place to ensure you success in these courses.

Test-Taking: The 3 Steps to Success
This seminar presents a 3 step approach to successful test taking. Learn what to do before a test to be better prepared, during a test to reduce anxiety and increase performance, and after the test to learn from your mistakes.

Procrastination Holding You Back?
Can you make this seminar? Maybe later? If you find yourself saying “later” a lot, then this seminar is for you. Time and again, students cite procrastination as holding them back from doing as well as they'd like. Attend this seminar to learn strategies for fighting procrastination
