VT Student Support Grants
Description
The Office of University Scholarships and Financial Aid (USFA), Multicultural Affairs (OMA), and the Center for Academic Enrichment and Excellence (CAEE) sponsor the Virginia Tech Student Support Grants Program (SSGP) . This initiative is designed to improve the retention and graduation rates of the undergraduate student population and to contribute to the development of student leaders on campus.
Application Materials
- A complete application form
- One letter of recommendation from a Virginia Tech faculty, administrator, or staff member who is able to provide information about your ability to serve as a mentor tutor, or student leader
Deadline
March 31, 2008. Only complete application packet submitted by the application deadline will be considered. The selection committee will interview finalists during the month of April.
NEW APPLICANTS ONLY: YOU MUST ATTEND A MANDATORY INFORMATION SESSION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS GRANT PROGRAM: (choose one) Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 2-3pm, Thursday, Mar. 13 from 6-7pm, or Monday, Mar. 17 from 1-2pm. All of the sessions are held in 110 Femoyer Hall.
Award Notification and Disbursement of Funds
Recipients will be notified by June 2, 2008 . Recipients must have a current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid, http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ ) on file at Virginia Tech. The award will be included on the recipient's USFA award letter.

- Full-time undergraduates enrolled at Virginia Tech
- Students must have earned at least 15 credit hours at Virginia Tech at time of application
- Cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 (your GPA will be verified)
- U. S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Alien
- Current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid, http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ ) on file at Virginia Tech
- Appropriate class status as outlined for specific grant
- Knowledge of inclusive and supportive activities on campus
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Willingness and desire to assist undergraduate students
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Attend required/mandatory training session(s)
- Attend all scheduled SSGP events
- Fulfillment of responsibilities as outlined for the specific grant which you are rewarded

Types of Support Grants
Presidential Enrichment Campus Grant Student Assistant:Up to15 sophomores, juniors, and seniors will serve as mentors, tutors, and/or support staff for the Office of Multicultural Affairs' Presidential Campus Enrichment Grant Program (PCEG). More information about the PCEG program can be found at: www.multicultural.vt.edu/pceg The PCEG Student Assistant grant is $1,200 per year (or $600 per semester) and renewable for up to two years pending satisfactory progress. Center for Academic Enrichment and Excellence Student Assistant: Up to 10 sophomores, juniors, and seniors will serve as support staff/representatives for the Center for Academic Enrichment and Excellence. The CAEE Student Assistant grant is $1,200 per year (or $600 per semester) and renewable for up to two years pending satisfactory progress.
